Tips for Getting the Correct Size Carrier at a Store
- Ask about SAMPLE carriers at the store – many stores will have these available for determining accurate sizing. They have been washed and dried, so they are already at their true size.
- When you put the carrier on – over your head and one arm, like a sash – make sure that the strap is flat across your shoulder and back, not bunched up.
- Put your open hand with fingers spread down in the pocket to simulate some weight.
- The lowest part of the carrier should not reach lower than the crease where your leg and torso meet. It is usually most comfortable for the lowest part of the carrier to fall just below your belly button; this is your center of gravity. Some parents prefer the carrier to be a little higher up on the body, just below the bust area. See what feels most comfortable for you.
- You should be able to open the pocket in front of you about 5 to 7 inches – that is usually the span of your hand with fingers spread.
